Julian is unlike anywhere else we serve. At roughly 4,200 feet in the Cuyamaca Mountains, it has hot, dry summers but genuinely cold, wet winters — with frost, occasional snow, and the freeze-thaw cycles that San Diego’s coast never sees. That changes everything about how concrete behaves, and it’s why mountain floors need a mountain-specific approach.

Freeze-thaw is the enemy here. When water gets into concrete and then freezes, it expands and forces cracks open — and a coating that traps that moisture, or can’t flex with the slab, will fail. So in Julian we treat moisture control as job one: thorough slab testing, our 3-Day Moisture Barrier system to seal off vapor, and flexible, freeze-tolerant crack treatment that moves through the cold-to-hot cycle instead of fracturing. We also plan installations around temperature, since coatings need the right conditions to cure properly — rushing a coat in cold weather is how mountain floors go wrong.

For Julian’s cabins, historic homes and rural properties, rigid SPC is an outstanding interior choice: 100% waterproof against snowmelt and tracked-in wet, and dimensionally stable through dramatic seasonal swings that would gap or buckle lesser floors.
